Frequently asked questions

What is a nutrition coach?

A nutrition coach uses their understanding of nutrition science and behavior-change psychology to help people eat better, achieve their health and fitness goals, and live healthier lives.

To achieve this, they first help their client identify their unique health, nutrition, and/or fitness priorities, goals, values, and preferences.

They then develop a customized plan to help their client incorporate small, sustainable daily actions that will help them reach their goals.

If their client ever feels stuck or confused along the way, their nutrition coach is there to listen, help them overcome challenges, solve problems, and continue making progress.

Ultimately, a good nutrition coach will help their client achieve the results they’re after—and keep them for the long haul.

The best nutrition coaches use an evidence-based, repeatable process that has proven to work for thousands and thousands of people from all walks of life.

What is a sleep, stress management, and recovery coach?

A sleep, stress management, and recovery (SSR) coach goes beyond fitness and nutrition to address the often-overlooked areas of their clients’ health that are holding them back.

If clients are stressed, overwhelmed, and/or sleep-deprived, they’ll continue to struggle with their nutrition and fitness habits, and their goals will remain elusive.

When an SSR coach helps their client optimize their sleep, recover better, and handle stress more effectively, every area of their health and life improves—from their nutrition and fitness, to their mental/emotional health, performance, relationships, and more.

This is why SSR skills are so crucial for coaches to have.

What is a master health coach?

A master health coach has developed the distinguished skill set required to address every area of their clients’ health and well-being—from their nutrition and physical fitness, to their mental and emotional health, sleep, stress management, and more.

They use their advanced coaching skills and understanding of behavior-change psychology to deliver truly comprehensive health coaching that impacts their clients’ lives in the deepest ways possible.

Because of this, master health coaches can have long-lasting, successful careers in this field—with full client rosters, a steady stream of referrals, and the ability to charge premium rates for their services.

What does it mean to be a “board certified” health coach?

Becoming a board certified health coach means earning the most esteemed credential in this industry.

The National Board of Health & Wellness Coaching (NBHWC) has partnered with the National Board of Medical Examiners to provide a robust board certification which represents rigorous training, education, and standards for the health and wellness coaching field.

Becoming a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC) bolsters your reputation as a qualified professional, demonstrates that you’ve met certain rigorous industry standards, opens additional job opportunities, and potentially lets you get reimbursed for your health coaching services through insurance.

To be eligible to become a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach, you must complete an NBHWC-approved program, conduct 50 health and wellness coaching sessions with clients, satisfy other eligibility requirements, and pass the HWC Certifying Exam.

What will PN’s certifications do for my career?

With PN’s coaching certifications, you’ll be able to coach people to better health in a variety of contexts and settings.

Some people become PN Certified to expand their existing skill set and offer a broader range of coaching services to their clients.

Others take one of our certifications as their first step into this rewarding field.

Some coaches work with their clients in-person, in a gym or office setting. Others work either partially or entirely online, from anywhere in the world.

Some are self-employed; others work for gyms, companies, or health practitioners.

One of the great things about becoming a nutrition and/or health coach is that there is no predetermined career path. You get to choose the career style that works best for you.

And where you get certified matters…

PN Certified Coaches earn more than competing programs on average, according to a recent industry survey.

Also, the average PN Level 1 Certified Nutrition Coach charges anywhere between $65 – $130 USD per hour for their coaching services.

There’s plenty of opportunity in this field, as 3 out of every 5 people are open to working with a health coach. And PN’s certifications will give you all the knowledge, skills, and tools to succeed.

What makes PN different from competing programs?

For starters, we’re the only certification company in the world that personally coaches our own clients (150,000 and counting).

We take everything we learn from the field—what’s working, what’s not working—and incorporate it into our certification programs for you.

This means everything you’ll learn is evidence-based, client-tested, and coach-approved.

We were the pioneers of habit-based coaching back in the early 2000s, and we’ve since become the industry’s gold standard for health and fitness coaching.

More recently, our revolutionary coaching method is the only one to be validated in three separate peer-reviewed scientific journals.

Over the years, we’ve been honored to work with multiple professional sports teams, hundreds of Olympic and pro athletes, and Fortune 100 companies.

No other certification company can say all of this.

If you want to learn from the best in the field, so you can become among the best in the field, PN is the clear choice.

Do PN’s certification programs require prior education or experience?

No prior experience or education is required to take our Level 1 Certifications (Nutrition and SSR). All you need is a passion to help others eat and live healthier. We’ll train you step-by-step on everything you need to know—from the cutting-edge science, to the behavior-change coaching skills.

Note: For the PN Level 2 Master Health Coaching Certification, we have found that students who do the best have already passed one of our PN Level 1 Certifications and/or have a background in a health-related field (fitness trainer, nutritionist, health coach, nurse, or another kind of health care provider). So while this isn’t “required”, we do encourage it.

Do PN’s certification programs come with a guarantee?

Yes! Both the PN Level 1 Nutrition and SSR Certifications come with a 45-day money-back guarantee. If you’re not fully satisfied with the program during that time, simply let us know (before you certify) and we’ll refund every penny.

For the PN Level 2 Master Health Coaching Certification: If you go through the entire 20-week program and do at least 75% of the lessons/practices, case studies, and quizzes… and you don’t think it was the best coaching experience of your life, let us know and we’ll refund every penny. You’ll also have a full 30 days after the start of the program to get a full refund if you’re not satisfied.

Do I have to complete the program(s) in a certain time frame?

Both the PN Level 1 Nutrition and SSR Certifications are entirely self-paced, with no deadlines. You can start whenever you like, go as fast or as slow as you want, and finish when it’s convenient for you. Your course materials will be yours to keep forever in your PN account.

Note: The Expert-Guided PN Level 1 Nutrition Certification does include 20 weeks of live sessions. But there are no deadlines to finish your program, you can still progress at your own pace, and you’ll have access to the session recordings so you can watch/listen when it’s convenient for you.

The PN Level 2 Master Health Coaching Certification is a cohort-based, structured 20-week program. To become a PN Certified Master Health Coach, and to be eligible for National Board Certification, attendance in the live sessions is mandatory. (There is also an option to become a PN Certified Master Coach, without board certification eligibility, that doesn’t require live session attendance. See more details here.)

“The PN Nutrition Certification allows you to immediately affect positive changes in the lives of your clients. One of the things I absolutely love is the focus on the big things first—the behavioral modifications, and the quick fixes that can yield dramatically improved results.”

“While many people try to complicate nutrition, Precision Nutrition seeks to simplify. I love their content and approach for that very reason. They make complex and time-consuming concepts user-friendly, which is great for people like me who want to eat well and be healthy, but can’t devote their whole life to thinking about it.”
