About the Project

About the Project

Hi there, I’m Dr. John Berardi and I’m an author, nutrition educator, and coach.

In 2014, I got together with two of my colleagues — nutritionist Dr. Mariane Heroux and food photographer Jason Grenci — to begin the Precision Nutrition Encyclopedia of Food project.

Every day, Mariane, Jason, and I work together at a company I founded called Precision Nutrition.

At Precision Nutrition, we bring together two groups of people: 1) the world’s best nutrition coaches and fitness experts and 2) people looking to eat, move, and live better.

The result: We help millions of people change their lives through good food, physical activity, and health-promoting lifestyle choices.

However, Mariane, Jason, and I have a secret.

Unlike typical fitness and nutrition people who seem to prefer weird powders, energy bars, and pseudo “health” nuggets…we actually love food.

We love growing it, we love harvesting it, we love preparing it, and we certainly love eating it. (Photographing it, talking about it, and writing about it are pretty awesome too!)

So that’s why we recruited a fantastic group of foodie friends, like writer and nutritionist Alex Picot-Annad, renowned chef and cookbook author Michael Williams, and award-winning poet and novelist Susan Olding, and more.

And we started building the Precision Nutrition Encyclopedia of Food.

With this project we hope to spotlight not only the health benefits of eating natural, minimally processed real foods. But also the beauty, deliciousness, and subtleties of these veritable wonders of nature.

We’ll share everything from:

  • where the food is found,
  • how to identify it,
  • which nutrients it contains,
  • how to select, store, and prepare the food,
  • and we’ll even share recipes.

So, if you’re new to the whole food thing: Welcome. You’re in the right place. We can’t wait to share this amazing stuff with you.

And if you’re already into food as much as we are: Fist bump. Come hang with some other passionate whole food people.

Oh, and by the way, I just wanted you to know…

The encyclopedia expands every single month as we highlight new foods and showcase Jason’s wonderful food photography.

Our eventual goal of building the most comprehensive – and beautiful – whole food library anywhere in the world.
