A couple of weeks back, we announced the coming of something we’ve been working on for months now: the Scrawny to Brawny Coaching Program, exclusively for skinny guys looking to pack on muscle the Precision Nutrition way.

We’ve had quite a few questions about this program, so I decided to answer some of the key questions here to help those interested learn more.

Q. Who is the Scrawny to Brawny Coaching Program for?

The S2B Coaching Program is for skinny guys who want to gain weight and build muscle.

The best candidates for the Scrawny to Brawny program are those naturally ectomorphic individuals who ‘can’t gain weight’ no matter what they try. We’ve been helping skinny guys do this for over 10 years, and I would say we know as much or more about the subject as anyone in the world right now.

Q. I’m really, really skinny.  Can this coaching program possibly work for me?

Simply puy: YES.

That’s not just idle bragging. We actually guarantee that it works.

Essentially, if you do at least 90% of what we ask you to do (and we’ll know — you’ll be tracking your daily habits on your private coaching homepage), you’ll be bigger and stronger than you’ve ever been — and knowledgeable enough to go further, if you want.

Q. Really?  You guarantee results?

Yes, and I can do that for two reasons.

Our Scrawny to Brawny coaching team consists of myself, Dr John Berardi, Paul Valiulis, and Charles Dertinger.  Combined, we have over 30 years helping people transform their bodies.  Even more interesting is the fact that we’ve all made the Scrawny to Brawny transition ourselves.

  • Me, I gained 85 total pounds – starting at 5’9″ and 135 lbs,and ending up at 5’9″ 220 lbs.
  • Paul gained 82 total pounds – starting at 6’1″ and 133 lbs and ending up at 6’1″ and 215lbs.
  • Chuck gained 75 total pounds – starting at 6’2″ and 145lbs and ending up at 6’2″ and 220lbs.

So, I’d say we’re uniquely qualified to coach skinny guys.  In fact, we’re the perfect storm of coaching.

We’ve learned how to go from Scrawny to Brawny, we’ve actually gone from Scrawny to Brawny, and we’ve successfully coached hundreds of others through the Scrawny to Brawny process.

Q: Why this program?  Why are you trying to help skinny guys get bigger?

To someone who’s never been skinny, it’s probably a hard thing to understand.

Yet all three of know what it’s like to feel insecure with our bodies, to feel incompetent around girls, to be embarrassed to take our shirts off in public, and to be too weak to do many of the things other guys do naturally.

However, all three of us also know what it feels like to turn everything around.  To get stronger every day, to start filling out our jeans and t-shirts, to start getting complements about our physiques, and to be proud of the physical strength and size we’ve earned in the gym.

But, the truth is, none of us did it alone.  At some point, each of us had a coach to help us out.  Someone to point us in the right direction when we were doing nothing but spinning our wheels.

Well, call us crazy, but that’s why we created this program.  To help as many scrawny guys as possible make the sort of changes they want and deserve.

Q. How is this program different from the Scrawny to Brawny book?

Hey man, I love books and I love to read as much as the next guy.  Heck, I’ve read so many books that I ended up with a PhD.

However, books can be really limited, especially in helping someone change their body.  And the biggest  limitation seems to be the fact that books present everything at once.

Of course, while most of us think we need to learn everything at once, research shows the exact opposite.  It shows that when we want to actually change something about ourselves, the only way to do it is to change one thing at a time.

Indeed, when we try to change one thing at a time, we have an 85% chance of success.  When we try to change two things, it drops to 35%.  And when we try to change three or more, our success rate plummets to less than 10%. Books typically present too much new information at once, and not enough over time, when you really need it.

Furthermore, mentorship (being taught directly by someone who has already mastered the subject) and social support (being surrounded by like-minded people earnestly chasing the same goals as you) are both utterly essential to the transformation process, and none of that can be found in a book.

That’s why we created both the Lean Eating Coaching Program for weight loss, and in the 3 years since its inception it’s been extraordinarily successful: we’ve taken some 3000 people through massive, life-altering body transformations, with some losing 50-60 lbs in as little as 6 months. The reasons for its success are simple: mentorship, social support, and a process that encourages daily habitual change.

Q. What if I’m a real beginner?  Can I still join?

Yes, of course.  In fact, we were all beginners at some point.

To help ease you into things, we start slowly.  Nobody will throw you into the deep end or expect you to be a superstar on your first day.

Then, with each new step and workout, we’ll provide suggestions for modifying things to fit your individual needs, restrictions, and abilities.

Q. What if I’m advanced?  Can this program meet my needs?

Sometimes, the simplest things are the toughest things to master, aren’t they?

If you’re looking for challenge, your coach will be happy to suggest ways to make the workouts tougher and the nutrition lessons more stringent.

However, don’t assume that you’re farther along than you are. As you progress through the program, you will realize there is plenty to learn.

Q. What’s with this $10,000 prize?  Who’s eligible?

All participants in the S2B coaching program are eligible for the $10,000 prize, which goes to the guy who has the best body transformation.

In general, for the S2B program, this means the guy who’s gained the most muscle size and muscle strength, and has created the biggest visual change during the 6-month judging period.

If you think about it, people are motivated by the carrot and the stick: reward and punishment. And in life, in general, there are plenty of punishments, but few rewards.

Well, we’re doing our part to change that. Because the beauty of a reward like this is that if you pursue it as hard as you can, you win even if you don’t win . . .

Q. I really love the idea of this prize!  But what if I don’t win?

Believe it or not, the true reward here is changing your habits, your mindset, your physique, and your life.  The $10,000 prize is just icing on the cake.

Q. When does the S2B program begin?

General registration begins on Tuesday, June 2nd.  And the program itself begins on Monday June 7th.

Q. How many people are you accepting in the program?

We’re only accepting only 200 guys this time around.
