Cardio

Hey all,

How much cardio is too much? When do you run the risk of sacrificing your fast twitch fibers?
I'm not cardio obsessed but I don't want to sacrifice strength and I perform some sort of interval conditioning twice a week (15-20 minute long bouts) but I also like to jump rope for 15-20 minutes a couple of times a week (mostly continuous, not done interval style tho I might throw in some double unders and then return to a normal pace).

Thanks!

what's your goal? If you're trying to lose fat, well cardio isn't the best strategy in the first place. If you're just interested in health, that may be a little skimpy.

I only want to lose a few pounds of fat so when my diet's in order I'm assuming that will probably happen so I don't seek out fat loss workout programs per se but I lift 3 days a weeks.

Why do you think 3-4 bouts are skimpy for general health? Maybe I should have added that my daily travels involve lots of walking.

yeah, if your eating is in control, the strength training will give you more bang for your buck in terms of energy expenditure.

The reason I think the stated cardio was a skimpy for health is merely the fact that my coach has me doing 5 X 20 minutes for Cardio-vascular/Max V 02 to complement my kettlebell training. I guess it depends on how you define "health."

One of the most common questions we get from Precision Nutrition readers is whether we can help them personally. The answer is usually no, and has been for some time. And the reason is simply that there are more people that need help than there are qualified coaches to help them.

But every now and again, we open up a few spots in our coaching programs, and we're now accepting people on the waiting list for our group coaching programs: Lean Eating for Men, and Lean Eating for Women.
