Got questions about the PN Cert?

On Wednesday March 7th, 2012 we’re launching one of our most exciting programs:

The Precision Nutrition Certification program.

In the works for over 5 years, the PN Certification is the first true nutrition education program for fitness professionals.

We literally wrote the book, a 500-page opus covering every aspect of the science and practice of nutrition coaching.

Plus, we’ve created a video lecture series to support the text, a challenging exam to test your mettle, and in general, a contribution to the betterment of the fitness industry as a whole.

Lean Eating for Women - January 2013

Hello! I do not work in the nutrition or fitness field (I work in special education in a public school), but I definitely have a passion for nutrition and fitness. I have worked a little as an aerobic instructor and personal trainer when I was in college but that was over 15 years ago. I have wanted to take the certification course for over a year but haven't done it. I would love the knowledge and the possibility of working a bit in the field of nutrition/personal training in the future. However, I am going through the lean eating program now and loving it. I am enjoying seeing the process and hope that these habits helps create a lifestyle for me. While I feel I have a good knowledge base, my follow through and and consistency has been poor in the past. I am wondering if I should focus completely on lean eating and wait to go through the certification course or if I should do both together.

"Note: We may also, through REPS, qualify for CEUs with Fitness Australia and a select number of other international organizations. This will take effect in 2012 and we’ll provide updates as soon as the application process is complete."

Just wondering if this is in effect yet?

Thanks for the question.

As far as the REPS/Fitness Aus thing, not yet, we're still waiting for them to finalize their relationship.

However, if you do the cert now, you can use it toward Fitness Aus CEUs when the deal is finalized.

Hi Jennifer, we'd love to have you in the PN Cert program. However, whether you participate or not is up to you.

If you feel like it'll distract you from your Lean Eating journey, I'd prefer you to wait until after Lean Eating ends. This way you can give Lean Eating your all for now.

If you don't feel like it's a distraction, then go for it. I know you'll learn a lot from both programs.

Would the course adequately prepare someone for working with elite athletes (similar to what you did for the NFL Players at the Nike facility)?

Also, will your textbook only be made available to those registering for the course?

Hey Adam, thanks for the questions.

As far as the text, yes it's only available to those in the course.

As far as preparing one to work with elite athletes, no single course can possibly do that. Working at the upper levels of human performance means a lifetime of education, many courses, and lots of experience. However, if you have to start somewhere, I'd say the PN Cert program is a fantastic beginning.

This might be answered in the FAQ and description page, but I couldn't find it, so apologies if it's there.

One of the useful things my university does is list an expected workload for a subject. It lists it as weekly contact hours (ie. hours in a lecture, lab, tutorial) and non-contact hours (reading, assignment, research, etc).

I notice there is 4 months listed for L1 and 6 months for L2 if studying a chapter per week. If we assume 1 chapter per week, for an average chapter, what sort of time commitment are we looking at for that week to learn that chapter (with the understanding that some weeks might be more time and others less)?

Good question.

For Level 1 we assume a 2-3 hour commitment per week IF you choose to do 1 chapter per week.

Obviously, if you choose to do less, the commitment is less. If you choose to do more, the commitment is more.
