Join Our Web Team

Now, I’ll be honest.  Currently we have a fantastic web team.  One of the best in the field, if you ask me.

However we just opened up a spot for someone who understands design for the web.  Someone who really “gets it” when it comes to typography, color, graphic design, usability, and user interface design as it applies to the web.

While most of the work will be related to our website and web applications, the person in this position will also be responsible for other design odds and ends: applying the Precision Nutrition style to t-shirts, presentations, short e-books, etc.

In essence, if you’re the winner of this position, you will be working closely with other members of the PN team to design the look and feel for our next generation of applications and websites.

Now, we don’t necessarily need you to know PHP, JavaScript, or the ins and outs of HTML and CSS.

What we DO need you to be is great at design.  Not just good; we need great. Now, when we say great, we mean fantastic.  Like, a choir sings and children weep with joy when you release your latest design.

And we need you to possess expert skills in Photoshop and whatever web design application you choose: Dreamweaver, BBEdit… heck, even Notepad or vi, if that’s what you like.

Working For PN

At PN we’re 100% performance based.

Most of our team work from remote locations – either in home offices or in private workspaces.   So we don’t expect our staff to punch a clock or sit through endless boring meetings.

However, what we do expect is high performance.  Excellence that can, and will, be measured. In exchange, we offer very unique work conditions.  As a PN team member you will have the flexibility to:

  1. Make your own work schedule.
At PN, you’re measured by what you produce, not by the time you spend at work.  Work when you want, from where you want.  As long as your work gets done, and done superbly, you have the freedom to set your own schedule.
  2. Work from home.
If you’re in Toronto, our home town, great.  If not, no worries.  Many of our employees work exclusively from home, from all over the world.
  3. Work in the fitness and nutrition industry.
We love exercise, we love nutrition, and we love sport.  That’s why we started this company.  If you do too, you’ll appreciate how rare it is to do a job you really love.  For active, fit people, Precision Nutrition is that opportunity.
  4. Work with fun, bright and truly talented people.
We’re a small company, and we’re picky about who we work with, because to us, this isn’t just a job — it’s our life.  So as a result, we’ve put together a small group of cool, exceptional people.  And in our opinion, that’s a very welcome departure from the large faceless corporations we’ve all worked for.

So, as you can see, we’re not a conventional company. We don’t care where you are, when you work, or how you work, as long as what you produce is exceptional. Like the PN nutrition and exercise lifestyle, what we really care about is results.

To that end, we announce the PN Design Competition.

The PN Design Competition

Here’s the deal.  Every single person that works for PN was given a “test run.”  A chance to show their skills – while figuring out if they actually enjoy working as part of our team.

Things aren’t going to be any different with this position.

Your first mission, should you choose to accept it, is to take the following 3 web pages/interfaces and redesign them.  Show us exactly what you would do to make them look better – and work better.  In other words, submit new, functional designs for the following pages.

1. The Results Tracker Entry Page:
http://www.precisionnutrition.com/designcompetition/ResultsTracker.html

2. A PN Forum Page:
http://www.precisionnutrition.com/members/showthread.php?t=19828
(note: you need to be a PN member to see this page)

3. A Blog Entry:
http://www.precisionnutrition.com/what-are-your-4-lbs

And here are the rules.

1. Keep the navigation and general framework intact
You can change the content in the main column and the content of the sidebar, but the header and footer of each page should stay the same.  In essence, we want you to be able to work within our design aesthetic – improving it and making it look awesome on the web.

2. Don’t ask us for any code or scripts
Truly, if you’re as savvy as we need you to be, you shouldn’t need anything other than a web browser to get what you need to complete your designs.

If you submit all 3 designs outlined above, and you blow us away, you can expect a job offer shortly thereafter.  In terms of timeline, we’d like to have someone getting started in the month of October.

Some Extra Cash

Now, having a job is awesome.  But let’s sweeten the pot with some extra cash.

1. Top 3 = $1000 Cash
We’ll be ranking the submissions and the top three people who submit all 3 designs win $1,000 cash per person.

2. Winner = $5000 Cash
The winner – if there is one…remember…we need to be blown away – will receive $5,000 and a job.

Notes:

1. Eligibility
You must submit designs for all three pages to qualify for the cash prizes.  All submissions become the property of Precision Nutrition.

2. Deadline
The deadline for this competition is Wednesday, September 30, 2009.
